Sandpiper landscape cotton maxi dress, 1980

This full length cotton sundress by Sandpiper was worn by June Cowper, around 1980. With its easy silhouette, covered buckle shoulder strap detail, and abstract print suggesting rolling hills or ocean, it is no wonder that this dress was worn on holiday in Rarotonga in its time (pictured).

The construction of this dress features a layered approach to the bodice, to create the effect of a top and skirt, paying special attention to finely finished facings and hems. Both hem edges feature side splits for ease of movement, and the asymmetrical bodice hem reflects the softly diagonal waving lines featured in the print.
