Faux suede coat trimmed with braid

Marianne Lock was 15 years old when she moved to Wellington from Bluff in 1974. The cost of living was higher in Wellington so Marianne's mother returned to work as a nurse at Wellington Hospital. "Mum bought this coat for me with her first pay," Marianne recalls. "I loved it because it was up-to-the-minute as far as fashion was concerned. It was also very expensive ($54) from my perspective and one of the very few items of clothing that had been purchased, as my mother made most of our clothes herself."
