Costume to prefer the stupidly magnificent rather the the sensible grind

Helen Schamroth painstakingly made this cloak for a project more than 30 years ago. "The context eludes me but the cloak has continued to hang in my wardrobe beside my jeans, accusing me of having been extravagant with the materials bought at Smith & Caughey's at a time in my life when this was irrational and stupid. Such is the drive to make art and the seductive power of beautiful materials." In preparation for the Intellectual Fashion Show 2016 exhibition, Helen embellished the cloak with twisted wire and beads found in her studio to make it even more 'stupidly magnificent'.
