This photo is one of a series taken by Clifton Firth at the Occidental Hotel in Auckland. Clifton trained at Elam School of Art and in his early working life he was a freelance commercial artist. He opened his photography studio at 110 Queen Street in 1938, rapidly became one of the most popular and imaginative portrait artists in Auckland.
