Top & skirt with embroidered vaka

Tarita Georgia Rahui’s 2017 collection was inspired by Cook Island carving, tātatau (tattoo) and patterns in other art forms. This top and skirt feature a vaka (boat) motif that she pattern darned onto the top and embroidered onto the skirt. Tarita was inspired to explore handcraft methods after taking part in an artisanal craft immersion and sustainable design collaboration experience in India, as part of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia in 2017.
