Tino Poraka, 2025
This poraka is a statement piece inspired after a hikoi to parliament in May 2024 -what turned out to be the first of many in the coming years. It is both a physical and symbolic embodiment of tino rangatiratanga. Each poraka I knit takes hours of work and if cared for properly, can be passed on to future generations to enjoy and embody. When I wear my poraka, it's an assertion to the world that "I am here, I am proud to be Maori, and you cannot take my tino rangatiratanga away from me:'
