Sylvester by Kate Sylvester teal chiffon dress with stud detail, 2010s
Carolyn Enting, editor, and award-winning feature writer bought this dress in the early 2010s, and wore it on many occasions, including to an event in France where she was representing Mindfood magazine as she was associate editor of Mindfood at the time. The following is her personal recollection:
"This is from Kate Sylvester’s diffusion line Sylvester, purchased from Kate Sylvester, Britomart store, Auckland. I’m not sure of the official name of the dress but the tufted fabric has always reminded me of a lovely grass lawn. I’ve always loved it because the fabric was so different and I’ve never seen it anywhere else or anyone else wear it. It’s transparent so I wore a nude slip under it.
Its most memorable outing was at an event hosted by Moët & Chandon at the Champagne house’s orangery, 20 Av. De Champagne, Épernay, France in May 2014 as part of its hosting around the Roland Garras event in Paris which we attended the following day. There was so much Champagne and not much food! I remember tasting a 1999 vintage among many others. Other guests included the owner of the White Rabbit restaurant in Moscow. It was an unforgettable experience."
This dress also features brass stud details around the inserted waistband, and an exposed zipper detail which was a leading trend in this era.
The NZFM photographed this dress at our Popup photography session in October 2024 which was part of our Hui Auaha o Aotearoa Open Day.
