Prince of Wales check coat

In 1953, Gus Fisher and his El Jay label were invited to take up the exclusive licence to produce Christian Dior originals in New Zealand. The offer was accepted and the agreement was signed with Christian Dior himself in Paris in 1954. This continued until the 1980s when this coat was made. Jo Morgan bought the coat in the early 1980s when she was working as an employment advertising consultant for Wilson & Horton newspapers. "I wore it heaps – usually with elbow length black gloves and black leather court shoes. This was the days of dress up when one really good quality outfit was all that was required."
