I designed these to wear over the summer months to coincide with the blooming of the pohutukawa flowers. I had to come up with special techniques to make the flowers (a combination of colourwork and dip-stitch knitting), as well as the construction of the sock. I got the wool raw off the sheep. I scoured the wool, picked it, then carded it into batts on a drum carder we electrified (most of my spinning tools are home made) spun the singles, plied it, set the twist, and dyed the yarn for the leaves and Pohutukawa flowers, designed the pattern, and then finally knit the socks.
