Peacock blue evening dress with floral motifs

This evening gown belonged to Lynette's mother, Audrey McCutcheon. She wore the dress many times as she and her husband Vern loved dancing. They were once placed first in a ballroom competition held in the Assembly Hall in Hastings.

Audrey and Vern are pictured in the 1950s at the Cabaret Cabana. It was situated at Awatoto along the Napier foreshore and was the "place to go" for balls or special occasions. Lynette says her father was on numerous committees. "I am guessing my mother was presented with the over large corsage she is wearing, as she wouldn’t have voluntarily added that to an already beaded top."
