Off-the-shoulder cocktail dress
Kevin Berkahn has been called the king of brides but one might add the king of society style, with a career spanning more than 50 years making glamorous gowns for all types of formal occasions. His garments have always had a more international than local flavour, using luxurious imported fabrics, extravagant embroidery and hand beading to create dazzling dresses for the glitterati. Interestingly, he is represented in the Black in Fashion exhibition by this atypical understated little black dress, which he made for regular client Trish Harvey to attend a cocktail function at the Auckland Racing Club of which her husband was the president. Read more about wearing the colour black in the New Zealand Fashion Museum publication Black: The history of black in fashion, society and culture in New Zealand.
