Nina Ricci Air New Zealand geometric print uniform, 1975-87
Nina Ricci of Paris designed a geometric border print in toning shades of blue and teal with white for use in a long skirt and top to wear on the dinner flights. A similar pleated short skirt and two shirts, one with long sleeves and tie neck, the other short sleeved and open necked with the same fabric. The linen-look wool and synthetic fabric for the dress uniform was made in New Zealand but the printed slub terylene polyester fabric for the hostesses skirts and top was spun in England. All the women's garments were designed to mix and match elegantly. The dress uniform was a classically tailored knee-covering suit that was Pacific blue for cabin crew and darker teal green for ground staff. The stewards changed to lighter colours - a sky-blue jacket with the koru embroidered on the pocket and light grey trousers with ties that were navy, red and white patterned.
