Kurt Payne ANZAC shawl, 2018
This is a knit shawl made from handspun New Zealand merino in natural colours. It is knitted in the Armenian locked floats technique made famous by Elsa Schiaparelli's 1927 Bow-knot sweater, with Kaffe Fasset style shaping and a steek in the construction. The design is themed around WW1 and the ANZACs with a focus on the animals that died in the war, a white poppy for peace and rows of war graves. This garment has been exhibited twice in New Zealand and once in Australia where it won first prize at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show. lnstagram: @manknitea
