Kolose, 2019
Fafine Niutao i Aotearoa is a collective of Tuvalu women from Niutao Island, based at the Pacifica Arts Centre - Moanaroa, West Auckland. They are well known for their Kolose - Tuvaluan crochet - often created in the form of tops, dresses and wall hangings. In 2019 I was gifted this precious Kolose, in the style of their signature members design and colours, as a symbol of our shared love and connection. It is a taonga I hold close and wear often, each time wrapping me in the love and strength of these master artists and knowledge-holders.
