Gold leather & guipure lace dress

This dress by William McElvoy was modelled by Josephine Brodie in the Wills Gold Rose Awards for Design in 1964. The dress was runner up to a cyclamen-coloured dress and coat - also designed by William McElvoy. The hat was made by Josephine’s mother. The awards were renamed the following year. They became known as the Benson & Hedges Fashion Design Awards. Josephine Brodie continued to play a key role in the awards - she co-ordinated and compered them until the end of the 1970s.
