Deborah Sweeney floor length sheer ferns dress, 2000s
This long, flowing Deborah Sweeney Dress is owned by Carolyn Enting, editor and award-winning feature writer.
The following is Carolyn's personal recollection about this dress, worn while she was Fashion Editor of The Dominion Post.:
"[It] Also came with a silk ribbon to tie at the waist but could also be worn without. I wore it both ways and to many memorable occasions including a special sit-down dinner event and exhibition viewing of Irish milliner Philip Treacy’s exhibition ‘When Philip Met Isabella’ at The Dowse, Lower Hutt in 2007 attended by Treacy himself. It was a particular thrill to meet Philip Treacy in person as his legendary and unforgettable show at the Hippodrome in London in 1997 during London Fashion Week Show was the first international runway show that I attended. It was a turning point for me with regards to confirming that fashion journalism was a career that I wanted to pursue. Getting to tell Treacy that in person was a moment I’ll never forget. He just kept holding my hand and wouldn’t let it go. I also wore the dress to the MAC Cosmetics ‘Gold Fever’ party at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in 2008. I always felt very patriotic wearing this dress because it was black with an underskirt of gold-silver ferns.
Purchased directly from designer Deborah Sweeney from her workroom in Seaview, Petone. I believe it was a sample and never put into production hence the lack of label details."
The NZFM photographed this dress at our Popup photography session in October 2024 which was part of our Hui Auaha o Aotearoa Open Day.
