The fabric is embroidered with flowers and leaves using coloured ribbons with metallic thread centres and stems. The back of the dress has deep fabric folds that create a trailing bustle effect, a feature that had a brief revival at the end of the decade. There are internal ties at the waist to facilitate the drape of the upper half of the dress by fixing and supporting the weight of the skirt.
