Commonwealth Games tracksuit

This Commonwealth Games representative tracksuit was worn in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 by one of New Zealand’s most-capped hockey players, Helen Clarke. The bronze medal, which the women’s team won at those games by beating India 3–0, was a highlight for Helen in a career that included three Olympics and a record 166 tests between 1992 and 2004 as the team’s keeper. After retiring she received the honour of Officer in the New Zealand order of Merit (ONZM) in 2005. Having represented New Zealand at so many different tournaments during her time means that she has an extensive historical wardrobe of New Zealand Representative uniforms but this one was chosen for exhibition because the ‘shell’ tracksuit was most typical of its era.
