Colin Cole slub silk dress, 1980s

Colin Cole was known for his bespoke designs, including hand-embroidered labels. However, towards the end of the 1960s, Colin extended his offering to include off-the-peg garments in response to the changing demographic. This slub silk garment has a conventional woven label, which he began to use instead of his signature hand sewn labels as production increased. The gentle puff sleeve shape, the graphic diagonal panelling and the button shoulder detail all indicate that this dress hails from the early 80s, just as silhouettes started to shift into what we associate with power dressing.
