Colin Cole blue silk ruffled cocktail dress, 1980s

This 1980s cocktail dress is one of the many Colin Cole garments owned by the Cole-McCondach family, and has been documented and editorially shot as part of a project undertaken by photographer Lily McCondach, Colin Cole's grand-niece.

The shot dupion silk taffeta this dress is made from features a slight colour shift of two shades of blue, which adds dimension to the soft gathering and draping which exaggerates the shoulder and hip, creating an enhanced hourglass figure. Two layers of full ruffles adorn the neckline, cuffs, and hemline around the tulip shaped wrap skirt. This is accented at the hip by fabric roses made of the self fabric as well as a contrasting lighter blue which picks up the lighter of the two tones woven into the material.
