Calf print day dress

Lisa McEwan interpreted June Black's 'Costume for a noble discontent'. Her label text for the Intellectual Fashion Show 2016 exhibition read: "Noble (adj.): having or showing high moral principles, from the Proto-Indo-European 'gno' – 'to know'. Discontent (n.): unease, disquiet. In contemporary fashion the finest footwear is extolled for its impeccable design and the quality of its leather. This piece prompts the audience to interrogate their tacit and/or unconscious acceptance of leather as the material of choice for designer footwear. It highlights alternative products and materials available on the market, and challenges the cognitive dissonance that allows us to wear the skins of non-human animals as an expression of our fashionability."
