Ball dress & draped jacket

Created for her Pakuranga College Senior School Ball, passionate home sewer Lesley Wedge used this opportunity to mould her first Vogue pattern into a personalised creation together with her mother Anne. This dress encapsulates a pivotal moment in Lesley’s teenage years. On the cusp of becoming a young woman, the dress made her feel poised, confident and chic. There was no doubt that for her school ball the dress would be one of her own creations. Lesley felt that "to have been simply purchased off the rack would have been unimaginative and boring". The choice of polka dot crepe in soft lilac for this formal occasion suggests a playful spirit behind the sophisticated style.
