Despite being a busy working mother of four, Eve (my mother) spent most of her "spare" time, on "traditional" crafts - so common for women of that era - including knitting, sewing, and embroidery. She invariably had knitting in her bag, and would "do a few rows" whenever she had a spare moment. My sisters and I were always dressed in colourful hand knits throughout our childhood. Wool was "recycled" (not a term in vogue in those days), as cardigans and jumpers were unravelled as we grew out of them, and refashioned into new garments. She also knitted lovely little outfits for our dolls. These baby bonnets were knitted for me, and are the only surviving examples of her knitting. The delicate little rosebuds were Eve's signature touches. I now treasure these as my mother's meticulous works of art.
