Angela Wickstead grey double-breasted blazer, 1990s

Angela Wickstead originally trained as an interior designer, and then moved into fashion starting her own bespoke design company and stores, before moving to Italy permanently from New Zealand in 1998. When her daughter Emilia Wickstead started her clothing company years later, she came on board to assist in a number of areas for the first five years of her business.

Doris de Pont ONZM recalls meeting up with Angela in Milan in 1990, where she took her to Armani and to Romeo Gigli.

This fitted double breasted blazer was made in Auckland, which suggests being made prior to Angela's final move to Italy. It is made from a fine grey wool suiting, and references classic tailored details that might be found on mens suiting from a much earlier period; the strong shoulders, large lapels and double breasted button stance echoes 1940s suit styling.

The NZFM photographed this jacket at our Popup photography session in October 2024 which was part of our Hui Auaha o Aotearoa Open Day.
