Wool evening gown with fringed hemline

Vinka Lucas and her husband David opened their salon, Maree de Maru, in 1962. It was located on Customs Street in Auckland, but they had their eye on the city's busiest street, Queen Street, and they moved there in 1966 with a series of spectacular promotions.  This evening gown was worn by Miss New Zealand 1970, Linda Ritchie. Linda was given an entire wardrobe sponsored by the New Zealand Wool Board. With the assistance of Jean Lodge she commissioned or purchased daywear, gowns, swimsuits and accessories by some of New Zealand’s most prominent designers.
