Straw boater with striped ribbon trim

Chas Hill sold a range of men’s hats from his Lambton Quay store, Hill and Sons, in the late 19th century. He began by importing hats from London, but soon got into making his own hats as well. Hills have been making boaters for well over a century - they were included in promotional material from 1875.

Hills Hats continues to make straw boater hats from their workroom in Petone, Wellington.
