Silver coat with large round buttons

Wellington boutique Zimme's began as a family-owned tailoring business in the 1920s. The 1960s were the beginnings of the anti fur movement, but price would have determined the choice of faux fur for this coat. The first fake furs started to appear in the early 20th century as an alternative to high priced real fur garments. Alison Loughrey bought this coat second-hand in Christchurch in 2002 with the last $60 of a bequest. "I loved wearing it with a splendid black Russian-style hat!"
