Handkerchief hem dress with velvet appliqué

Kim Thompson bought this dress from a stall at Cook Street Market to wear at her engagement party. The use of t-shirt material to create fitted dresses was quite a new idea and the sewing techniques were not yet very sophisticated. The edges of the dress are flutted using a zigzag stitch and a closer zigzag is used for the appliqué.
